Helen Beling is a new artist added to the Memorial Gallery of American
Art. Born and raised in New York City, she studied at the Art Students
League and became a well known sculptor. Her work was shown at the
Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and is
included in the collection of the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington, DC, and
other museums throughout the United States.
Books:
Several
of the artists in this site have had books published about them.:
Both Jan
Stussy and Rico Lebrun, who were contemporaries and good friends,
are the subjects of books that
explore their art and their reactions to the world around them.
The
Meridian of the Heart is a book of
selected letters of Rico Lebrun--including a letter to Jan Stussy and his wife Kim.
The
Odyssey of Jan Stussy in Black and White has a chapter on the profound impact that
Lebrun had on Stussy. (Incidentally, the Stussy book has beautiful color plates of his
paintings; the "Black and White" in the book's title refers to
the contradictions in Stussy's persona--not to the artworks depicted.)
Both books should
be fascinating to the reader who wants to know more about the dynamic
psychological workings of the artist's mind and emotions in response to events and people
around him.
Walter Hook is
the subject of Celebrations, the Art of Walter Hook, published by
Hit Editions in Missoula, Montana.
Information on how to obtain each book is given at the end of each artist's biography
on his Portfolio page.
